ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the value of serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI).Methods Pretreatment LDH level, pathological characteristic, tumor staging and treatment situation of 190 advanced NSCLC patients with EGFR sensitive mutation confirmed by pathology were retrospectively collected in Zhuhai People's Hospital of Guangdong Provice from July 2011 to July 2015.All the patients were divided into LDH normal group (LDH ≤252 U/L,n =78) and elevated group (LDH > 252 U/L,n =112) according to pretreatment LDH level.Inaging evaluations of the patients were performed regularly, and the progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were recorded. The survival curves were plotted by Kaplan-Meier method and survival difference between patients with different LDH level was compared by logrank test.Cox regression analysis was used to analyze prognostic factors for mortality. Results The objective response rate of the LDH normal group was 76.9% (60/78),and the elevated group was 71.4% (80/112),with no statistically significant difference (x2 =0.716,P =0.398).The disease control rate of the LDH normal group was 89.7% (70/78),and the elevated group was 85.7% (96/112),with no statistically significant difference (x2 =0.676,P =0.411).The median PFS of the LDH normal group was 11.5 months, and the elevated group was 9.7 months (x2 =5.92,P =0.015).The median OS was 31.0 months in the LDH normal group, and 26.1 months in the elevated LDH group (x2 =4.79,P =0.029).Both PFS and OS of patients with elevated LDH were shorter than those of patients with normal LDH.Cox multivariate regression analysis showed that tumor staging (HR =1.652,95% CI:1.386-2.259,P =0.018),PS score (HR =2.248,95% CI:1.507-3.846,P < 0.001),carcino-embryonic antigen (CEA) level (HR =1.250,95% CI:1.066-1.703,P =0.037) and LDH level (HR =1.771,95 % CI:1.324-1.947,P =0.015) were independent prognostic factors in patients with advanced NSCLC.Conclusion Pretreatment serum LDH can not affect the objective response rate and disease control rate of EGFR-TKI in the treatment of advanced NSCLC,but can affect the PFS and OS of patients.Pretreatment serum LDH is an independent prognostic factor.

ABSTRACT

Due to the decline of motor ability and the impact of the diseases, abnormalities in gait is common in the elderly population, which will raise the risk of fall and cause serious injury. This study focuses on the analysis of the gait kinematics parameters of normal adults' gait, aiming to investigate the characteristics of gait parameters in different age groups and to explore the role of gait parameters in motor function assessment and clinical diagnosis. Based on the gait data gained by electronic walkway, the relationship among the toe out angles and their correlation with age and gender etc. were quantitatively analyzed. The results show that most normal subjects walk with positive toe out angles, and the angles increase with age. Such changes are slow in the young and middle age groups. However, the elevations of the left out toe angle and the angles between the feet are statistically significant after entering elder age ( >60 years). The results also suggest that the angle between the feet is a kind of practical gait parameter for varying applications. This study concludes that feet angle analysis is potential to provide a convenient and quantitative tool for the assessment of lower limb motor ability and the diagnosis of knee joint diseases.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To screen and analysis of antihepatic steatosis active components and cell metabolism withinrhubarb anthraquinones in vitro. Methods: Lipid-lowering activity of liver cell affinity components in rhubarbanthraquinones was evaluated by hepatic steatosis in vitro model. Hepatocyte-specific affinity compositions werescreened by hepatocyte affinity chromatography. Hep G2 cells were incubated with rhubarb anthraquinones in vitro andwere detected by HPLC and HPLC-Q-TOF-MS method. Results: Compared with normal group, the intracellular TGcontent of model group were significantly increased (P<0.05) . Respectively treated with different concentrations ofrhubarb anthraquinones, the intracellular TG content were significantly decreased in a dose dependent manner (P<0.05) in comparison with model group. Compared with rhubarb solution, there are mainly four hepatocyte-specific affinitycompositions of aloe-emodin, emodin, chrysophanol and physcion, except for rhein. Conclusion: The lipid-lowering experiment in vitro verified that five rhubarb anthraquinones have significant lipid-lowering activity. This research established a biochromatography method to screen out four hepatocyte-specific affinity compositions of aloe-emodin, emodin, chrysophanol and physcion from rhubarb anthraquinones, while the conjugation sites of rhein were ambiguous.Combined hepatocyte affinity chromatography with hepatic steatosis in vitro model, it could evaluate and screen lipidlowering active ingredient in vitro and cell metabolism of Chinese traditional medicine for the drug development of lipidlowering rhubarb anthraquinones.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo observe the efficacy and safety of acupuncture therapy on moderate and severe allergic rhinitis via the comparison evaluation of western medicine.

METHODSSixty cases of moderate and severe allergic rhinitis were divided into an acupuncture group (30 cases) and a western medicine group (30 cases). In the acupuncture group, the main acupoints included Yingxiang (LI 20), Shangxing (GV 23), Fengchi (GB 20), Quchi (LI 11), Xuehai (SP 10), Feishu (BL 13), Geshu (BL 17), Pishu (BL 20), etc. The supplementary points were selected according to syndrome differentiation. In the western medicine group, budesonide nasal spray and cetirizine tablets were prescribed. All the cases were treated for 8 weeks in the two groups. Separately, before treatment, in 4 weeks and 8 weeks of treatment, the scores of clinical symptoms and physical signs were observed and the clinical efficacy and safety were compared between the two groups.

RESULTSIn 4 weeks and 8 weeks of treatment, the scores of symptoms such as sneezing, nasal discharge, nasal obstruction, nasal itching, eye itching and turbinate hypertrophy, the score of physical signs and total score were all reduced apparently as compared with those before treatment (all P<0. 05). The differences were not significant between the acupuncture group and the western medicine group (all P>0. 05). The total effective rates were 90. 0% (27/30) and 93. 4% (28/30) in the acupuncture group after 4 and 8 weeks of treatment, and were 76. 6% (23/30) and 80. 0% (24/30) in the western medicine group separately, without significant difference in comparison (all P>0. 05).

CONCLUSIONAcupuncture achieves the similar efficacy on moderate and severe allergic rhinitis as western medicine. It is the safe therapy and has no apparent adverse reactions.
